I have decided with my trips between Las Vegas and Los Angeles becoming frequent, that I will build a portable server that will travel with me. At first, this box will be a basic server running debian or ubuntu (I have not decided yet - a lot depends on what works with the least amount of configuration) Eventually, I want this box to also act as a mobile router/access point for my laptops on the road (including my car).
I have decided on the following hardware:
- Thermaltake Lanbox
- Thermaltake 7″ Touchscreen
- Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor
- 4 Gig Ram
- 74 Gig Raptor Boot/System Drive
- 2 x 750 Gig SATA HD (Mirrored RAID)
- CD/DVD-ROM
- Wireless - undecided
- eSATA controller - undecided
- Bluetooth - undecided
I have most of the parts and am about to start the process of putting it all together. I still need to order the touchscreen (not too worried about getting that quickly, I want to be sure the system runs as planned before finalizing it with the touchscreen)
Once I get the touch screen, I hope to modify the interface so I can control basic functions of the server from the touch screen itself. This should be fun.
I will post updates as I complete them.
Fun, fun, fun
