Yesterday, my buddy Andrew and I went to the LVLUG meeting and one of the guys there went to town on my UX280p and installed Beryl. This made me want to go home and try it out on our other systems.
It was pretty F***ing Painless
The steps for ubuntu 7.04 (fiesty)Make sure you have the latest nvidia drivers from apt, add/remove, or automatix the package you need is nvidia-glxI edited the /etc/apt/sources.list and added:deb http://ubuntu.beryl-project.org feisty mainThen ran the following for the key:
wget http://ubuntu.beryl-project.org/root@lupine.me.uk.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
Do the following to enable compositing in the nVidia driver:
sudo nvidia-xconfig –add-argb-glx-visuals –composite
Install Beryl and the emerald theme manager:
sudo apt-get install beryl beryl-manager emerald-themes
Restart your X by logging out and back in or just press ctrl-alt-backspaceGo to Applications > System Tools > Beryl ManagerThis will pop a red diamond icon in your notification area (on my screen it’s on the top right)Beryl is now running and active.To do the spinning cube: Hold ctrl+alt and move the mouse around.If you want to play with your themes or set settings, right click on the diamond icon and choose “Beryl Settings Manager”Enjoy
